Miltiadis Kyrkos was elected MEP in 2014 with the "Potami" party, a member of the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament. An active member of the LIBE (Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs) Committee, where he intensively worked on the refugee/migration issue and of the TRAN (Transport and Tourism) Committee, where he fought for strengthening the territorial and social cohesion.
As Vice-President of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), he worked on improving relations with Turkey by firmly supporting its European perspective as the strongest tool for the support of the reforms needed in Turkey’s institutions, economy and social development.
His message to his fellow Members of the European Parliament today, concerning the proposal by some to terminate once and for all the accession negotiations with Turkey, is summed up in the phrase "Do not kill the dream". The dream of the vast majority of Turkish citizens and especially those who are fighting for a country that respects democracy and rule of Law, can be a strategic partner of peace and stability in the region and offers sustainable prosperity to its people.
